Bridge Resources
"Not all producers are located along state and interstate highways. As such, North Dakota's local roads are a lifeline for the state's agriculture, manufacturing and energy sectors, providing the connectivity that allows them to compete in the global economy. Bridges are key to our state's robust business economy, providing critical network links that allow safe and efficient transportation of people and goods. So what does our local roadway bridge health look like? It's ailing. There are about 3,100 local roadway bridges in North Dakota. Only 47% are in good shape, with about 14% in poor shape and 21% with posted weight limits. So what can we do? The challenge is to take the limited roadway dollars and create a preservation, rehabilitation and replacement plan that improves our overall bridge condition. Working with local leaders to help them better understand bridge maintenance, new technologies and replacement options is time well invested." Nancy Huether, PE and NDDOT Bridge Management Team Leader.
