Description

Training is designed to ensure that pedestrian facilities and access routes along roadways are properly designed and constructed for all individuals.

Specific topics to be covered include

  • Identify Best practices for those involved in the design and maintenance pedestrian facilities
  • Ensure compliance to applicable accessibility laws and guidelines
  • Taught from the perspective of the Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG)
  • Overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • FHWA requirements
  • Minimum design requirements for new construction and alterations
  • Identify some of the challenges in the public right-of-way faced by persons with disabilities

Target Audience

Public officials, engineers, designers, technicians, road/street supervisors, construction and maintenance personnel, landscape architects, municipal attorneys and others responsible for regulatory compliance and management of liability risk will find the workshop beneficial.

Speakers

Ted Green, P.E. (NJ, PA, NY), Ted Green, P.E. (NJ, PA, NY) Ted is a civil engineering graduate of North Dakota State University. He provides Americans with Disabilities Act training as it relates to the public rights-of-way and other transportation related subjects. Ted has presented ADA workshops throughout the country including many workshops with the FHWA Resource Center staff.
