Speakers

Matt Johnson, PE Matt has 29 years of experience in the transportation industry. Matt was an assistant city engineer and city engineer from 1994 to 2002. He was then a project engineer from 2002 to 2018, serving as the design and construction engineer of record for numerous municipal and transportation projects. He oversaw office and engineering staff and was responsible for relations with clients, agencies, NDDOT. Beginning in 2018, he operated his own construction engineering consulting firm, providing coordination between owners, engineers, contractors, subcontractors and the public. Matt has been with UGPTI/NDLTAP since 2020.

Cody Idso, is a project manager for the heavy civil earthwork division of Baranko Brothers. Cody earned a B.S. degree in construction management from NDSU in 2015. Cody has worked for Baranko Bros., Inc. full time since May of 2015 and completed an internship with the company in 2014. He has been lead on projects for NDDOT, Stark County, Dunn County, Mountrail County, McKenzie County, MHA Nation, Minnkota Power, Great River Energy, Basin Electric, and various other oilfield/private owner projects.

Chad Cowley, PE is the Geotechnical Department manager in the Bismarck office for Terracon Consultants, Inc. He has 22 years' experience in the engineering, testing and consulting industry. Chad provides geotechnical design parameters and foundation recommendations for a wide variety of projects including industrial buildings, airports, highways, and roadways. He supervises geotechnical field and laboratory personnel, conducts analysis, and prepares engineering reports for geotechnical projects. He is also Bismarck's technical manager responsible for assuring the quality management system is implemented.

Scott Whaley, PE is a regional sales manager with Tensar and resides in Morton County. His 14 years of experience designing and constructing with geosynthetics includes paved and unpaved roadways, industrial facilities, and MSE walls and reinforced soil slopes. Scott has helped counties, communities, townships, and other agencies resolve foundation issues with innovative and cost-effective solutions.
