Heavy Equipment Safety Training

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday - September 2, 2020

There is a $25.00 registration fee (includes printed training materials and instructor fees). NDLTAP will invoice post event.
Lunch will be provided.

Heavy Equipment Safety course cover will cover dump trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers and backhoes.

Classroom topics will cover how to: (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

  • Complete a pre-trip inspection and preform proper documentation
  • Compare blind spots, pinch points, pivot points and stability issues on various equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on various equipment
  • Recognize hazardous situations during the operation of heavy equipment
  • Operate the equipment at the job site

Field Training (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)

  • This portion of the training will include demonstrations on how to document a pre-trip inspection and identify defects on equipment. There will also be an exercise on how to identify blind spots, pinch points, pivot points and stability issues on equipment.
  • Attendees will have an opportunity for hands-on operation of the above equipment on the maintenance lot to grasp the importance of blind spots, pinch points, pivot points and stability issues on equipment.

Linda Webb owns Training & Beyond, LLC and is a contract instructor for MO-LTAP. She trains city and county employees to become more efficient and effective in their daily job tasks with safety as a top priority. She knows how important formal training is for the safety of the highway maintenance employee and emphasizes that on-the-job training should reinforce safety awareness. Linda retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) with 27 years of experience.

Target Audience

The course is recommended for anyone operating heavy equipment or supervisors who have employees under their direction who operate heavy equipment.
