Description

Minnesota has a long history of having the highest quality Temporary Traffic Control standards, devices and trained practitioners. This is a direct result of MnDOT, local road authorities and industry partners working together to not only develop the highest quality of training and reference documents, but ensures training is readily available at all levels. In 2017, the traffic control industry approached MnDOT with concerns of improper temporary traffic controls on local roadways resulting in increased risk to the safety of workers and travelers on Minnesota’s streets and highways. It was determined the most effective way to address this situation was to develop an improved comprehensive work zone training plan that would meet the needs of local road authorities as well as private contractors and companies that perform work on or near streets and highways.

Major components critical to the success of this effort were determining the needs of workers, supervisors, managers and designers to provide them the information and tools needed to effectively and safely perform their duties; identification of existing training courses that could meet these needs; and identification of new initiatives to effectively meet the identified needs.

The implementation of the recommendations contained in this proposed training plan will not only result in safer work zones for both workers and the traveling public, but also serve as a platform to refocus on having the highest quality of Temporary Traffic Control in Work Zones.

This webinar will provide an update on this Comprehensive Statewide Work Zone Training initiative and answer questions on, What training is offered? What training is needed? How is the training made available?
