Shop Mechanic - Engines and Hydraulics

  • Jul 24, 2014 (9:00 - 4:00 pm CT; 8:00 - 3:00 pm MT)
Video Conference (designated rooms at DOT sites)

Operators and shop personnel are all responsible for their trucks and equipment. Premature failures, high operating costs, downtime, and unsafe equipment are all items we try to avoid. When we understand the basic principles of our fuel, lubrication, cooling, air induction, and hydraulic systems we can safely and effectively reduce downtime and operate our equipment safely.

This course is designed to provide a basic overview and understanding of diesel engines and hydraulics in order to prevent premature failures, reduce operating costs, downtime, and keep our equipment safe for operators and the general public. This course is applicable for both shop personnel and operators of equipment. It will discuss items valuable to pre/post-trip inspections.

Course topics include:

  • Safety
  • Diesel Fuels
  • Fuel Systems
  • Lube Oil Systems
  • Cooling Systems
  • Air Induction Systems
  • Basic Hydraulics

Upon completion of this course, participants should understand the basic knowledge of operator safety, diesel engines, and hydraulics.
