Description
This course provides comprehensive training on the proper measurement of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) weights in accordance with North Dakota Century Code, North Dakota Administrative Code, and applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. The course is designed for personnel responsible for operating vehicle scales, conducting roadside inspections, or supporting weight enforcement and compliance activities across the State of North Dakota.
Upon completion, participants will be prepared to perform truck weight measurements that are accurate, compliant, safe, and enforceable under North Dakota law.
- Learn standardized methods to accurately measure GVW, GCW, and axle/axle group weights using fixed and portable.
- Emphasize accuracy, consistency, proper documentation, and legal defensibility of weight measurements.
- Understand seasonal load restrictions, permitted loads, and special vehicle configurations common in North Dakota (agricultural, energy sector, and winter operations).
- Apply safety best practices for personnel and motorists, including effective communication with drivers.
