There is a 25.00 registration fee (includes the cost of the book provided and other printed material). NDLTAP will invoice post event. Lunch is on your own.

To become a presentation pro, we will

  • Break down presentation challenges and learn simple tips for success
  • Develop your own presentation style
  • Learn how to engage an audience
  • Master the steps to becoming a Presentation Pro: growth, loving the stress, preparation, sharing a story/passion, self-assessment, show and tell,10,000-foot start, three main issues, power of the pause, presentation cadence and more
  • Selling the benefit of YOU in asking for a raise or promotion
  • Presenting skills to keep meeting on track
  • In class we will review your current presentation style, PowerPoints, presentation notes and work on growth plans. Participants will work through a couple sample presentation projects.

  • Class participants will receive a copy of Matt Abrahamson's book, "Speaking Up without Freaking Out".


Amy Biese is the team lead for research and pavement design at the North Dakota Department of Transportation. She is a registered professional engineer in the state of North Dakota and a graduate of NDSU. Amy is passionate about promoting technical topics with her colleagues through verbal communication.

Dale Heglund, P.E. NDLTAP Program Director, has 40 years of transportation experience ranging from equipment operator to design engineer. His career focus has been to promote a quality roadway network by helping others understand roadway engineering principles, the synergies of working cooperatively with others, leadership skills, and new technology implementation processes.

Lisa Heiser has been working at her dream job as the Stark County Parks Director for the past 4 years and previously worked at a professional services firm for 17 years. Her straight-forward, bottom-to-top approach has allowed her to fail, reinvent herself, and try again. She is best known for her role in her home building commercial, showing off her identifiable laugh which taught her that an audience is always, listening, and laughing too.

Jamie Vavra-Smith is currently the Administrative Assistant III for the Barnes County Highway Department. Jamie defines what it means to go above and beyond what is expected of her. She has taken it upon herself to be the Highway Department's "CMB" (Chief Morale Booster), coming up with team building ideas and ways to make work fun. She is also very involved in her community and is active with the Litchville Historical Society, Special Olympics, City Council, and the Barnes County Township Officers Association. Jamie is a graduate of Minnesota State University - Moorhead and the Recipient of the 2014 North Dakota Association of Counties (NDACO) Excellence in County Government - County Employee Award.
