Description

North Dakota public agencies deal with winter weather many months of the year. This training examines current methods of winter maintenance on the local transportation system as well as some newer technologies. The goals of this course are to:

  • provide an overview of current winter maintenance practices,
  • review essential elements of a winter maintenance policy and who should know those elements,
  • identify tools for winter maintenance, and
  • examine benefits/concerns with those tools on both paved and gravel roads.

Motor-grader best practices. Gary Steiner, Burleigh County Operator. Operators will participate in a group discussion and demonstrate best practices of snow removal using the motor-grader which will be available on-site for training.

Snowplow truck best practices. Ross Hanson, Morton County Operator. Operators participate in a group discussion and will demonstrate best practices of snow removal using the snowplow truck which will be available on-site for training.

NDDOT. Mike Watson, NDDOT Fleet and Equipment Supervisor, Bismarck District
Expertise provided on the following topics:

  • Product selection for anti-icing and de-icing
  • Provide expertise on truck calibration
  • Provide the importance of snow equipment maintenance
  • NDDOT will also provide hands-on training with Bjorn Kleven, Force America representative, focusing on controller and calibration

County, state, township, and city maintenance personnel, supervisors, and county commissioners.
